Client Profile If you are detail-oriented, the first thing you notice about Ziad is that he is impeccable—his language, his mannerisms, and his approach to priorities. If a career in law does that to a person, we need to approach the bar... In June 2005, Ziad joined Birdsell Grant LLP as a summer student. Birdsell Grant was established 25 years ago in Stony Plain. With the economy growing, the firm opened an office in Edmonton to better serve the city business. Six years after joining the firm, Ziad is now a partner. Most of his time is spent working from the Edmonton location, focusing on corporate/commercial law, real estate and wills, and estates and trusts. However, his duties expanded further, as he was tasked with redeveloping the firm's communication tools to better enhance its ability to compete head-on in today's market and address rising client expectations. We first met Ziad through a client, on a project that required legal advice. Ziad was our client's lawyer. That introduction led to later discussions about the communication needs of the firm. Ziad had very clear ideas about what needed to be done, and together we created a strategy to get the priorities completed. Like many organizations, Birdsell Grant's website needed some attention. The site no longer reflected the practice, or where the firm wanted to grow. Through consultation, we developed a new interface for the site and programmed a news feature that allowed for frequent updates. This facilitated employment news and staffing changes. We then coordinated commercial photography of the firm's lawyers, bringing a continuity to the imagery and how key individuals were presented. After the site was launched, we maintained its visibility through ongoing Search Engine Optimization. As is often the case, the company's logo was no longer a single entity. Over time it had been adjusted and modified, and multiple versions were creating continuity problems. We adjusted the logo into standard file types and created a guideline sheet that helped suppliers and internal staff stays consistent within the identity. The finishing touch was implementing the wordmark into an email signature.
