"There are great people involved—it's a real feel-good story." "One of the most enjoyable parts of this show is the reactions of people when they win that big prize," Bill laughs. "It was really comical. Cory was calling his friends, his girlfriend, everybody… and no one would believe that he won the car. He was shaking and everything. He finally convinced his girlfriend, and she ran the whole length of the park in about 35 degrees to come see. It was just so much fun, hugs all around," remembers Bill, smiling. "And it was kind of nice to see somebody that wasn't 65, made of money, and could buy anything he wanted. I really think this car will mean a lot to him." But even with the substantial donations and sponsors, none of this could be possible without the help of a few like-minded individuals, Bill knows. "The cool thing is it's seven hardworking volunteers putting this show on. Well, six hardworking volunteers and me," he chuckles. "Come the weekend of the show, we've got 200 terrific volunteers, but the seven guys work year-round to put this show on." It's obvious that everyone involved—from sponsors, to volunteers, to the attendees—is incredibly passionate and supportive of car culture, and it really shows. And thanks to the 14th annual Atlantic Nationals (and a good dose of luck), Cory Doran has a new reason to be passionate: he is now the proud new owner of an impressive '48 Orange Krate. Take a deep breath in and enjoy that sweet, sweet old car smell, Cory. You deserve it. 35
