GS: Who were your influences ge ng started? RD: I was interested in all motorsports. When I was younger, I had a '68 Dart with a 383 and played with that. But I got married young, worked out of town and had a family and didn't have me for serious racing un l later in life. There is a great fraternity amongst the racers. GS: Do you remember your first race? RD: Legally or illegally? I grew up in the muscle car era in the '60's, but didn't start racing on a track un l a er my family grew up. In '87, I was racing with my brother and then on my own, in '89. There was no track here in Edmonton at that me, so we went to either Saskatoon or Calgary. I first started with a Nova street car in '89 and then to a 23 T Altered and My brother Keith was an influence - KD Motor Racing team name is in his memory. I started out in bracket racing and it evolved from there. Everyone I meet and those that help me out have been influences in my career. From Mike Reynolds, my crew chief since 1990, John Schmidt from Smi y's Auto, Wade Sjostrom and all the racers I have met over the years. GS: Do you have any career highlights, to date, that are special to you? RD: Not enough, no huge wins. We have had the car in Bakersfield a couple of mes and that is always a great me. We've been to Boise and Spokane, Mission and a lot of small tracks. Everywhere where we go is a lot of fun. We obtained the 200 mph mark last summer so that was also fun. GS: If you could race in any event what would it be? RD: Well, I would like to win Bakersfield. It's the premier event. 1 0 0 G A R A G E | S H O T S
