4 Harvest should be in full swing by the me this edi on of Pulse Crop News reaches your mailbox. Here's to hoping we all have an easier go of it for all of our crops with more coopera ve weather condi ons than last year. Es mates show that slightly fewer pulses were seeded in Alberta this year compared to last, almost 2.3 million acres compared to 2.4 million, with peas down a bit and chickpeas up a bit. Demand con nues to rise for all kinds of pulses, and Alberta Pulse Growers is helping to drive the demand for our products at home with targeted consumer campaigns including a relaunch of our Facebook page and promo ng the Pulse Canada Half Cup Habit ini a ve. In July, I had the pleasure of hearing about many of the great strides we are making in the pulse industry at Pulses 2017 in Vancouver, hosted by the Canadian Special Crops Associa on (CSCA) and Global Pulse Confedera on (GPC). Given that we just finished an amazing Interna onal Year of Pulses 2016, it was great to see the industry working to carry that momentum forward with numerous ini a ves in Canada, North America and the world to promote the great benefit of pulses for health, sustainability and economic viability for producers. I think it's a great event for APG directors to a end and I'm pleased that four were available to go this year, in addi on to Execu ve Director Leanne Fischbuch. The opportunity to see how this global pulse market works, and the market outlook sessions for each type of pulse are very worthwhile, as well as the chance to network with importers and fellow growers from around the world. This was my fourth CSCA conference and second GPC. I find the events just keep ge ng be er every year. The quality of the speakers, the diversity of the a ending delegates, and the networking opportuni es make it such a valuable event to a end. Meanwhile, regular readers likely no ced that this issue of Pulse Crop News is spor ng a new design intended to increase readability.
