FARM SAFETY INITIATIVES MAKING HEADWAY AGSAFE ALBERTA UPDATE The Alberta crop and livestock sector- driven farm safety organiza on, AgSafe Alberta, has been engaged in delivering prac cal safety and risk management solu ons to farms and ranches around Alberta. The goal is to enable farm businesses to establish prac cal farm safety programs that are integrated into the farm business and that will enhance the safety culture on the farm. It's important to acknowledge the overall intent of any farm safety program is to simply prevent incidents, and serious or fatal injuries. Most agricultural opera ons have some degree of safety measures in place but many have not been formalized. AgSafe Alberta has tools, resources and services available to assist producers in formalizing safety in their opera ons. AgSafe QuickStarts guide producers to build a plan on their own and are a good star ng point for se ng up key components for grass-roots farm safety management. Producers exploring their farm safety op ons or looking to set up Donna Tro er, P. Ag, AgSafe Alberta Program Director Producers Lise and Marc Rochon work with AgSafe Advisor Dan Tro er to customize their farm safety program while at FarmTech 2018. a comprehensive safety program have been taking advantage of the services offered through the Advisor pilot project. The Advisors have been working with a broad array of agricultural opera ons including dairies, cow-calf, grain-pulse-canola crop producers, feedlots, chicken producers, hog producers, egg farmers, potato growers, and more. Each producer determines the level of consulta on provided and works with the Advisor to adapt the program to suit their opera on and safety culture philosophies. 2 4
