It turned out that our visit was very well timed. Gary was just putting the final touches on his 1929 Chevrolet.
He managed to track down his very first car that he bought when he was in high school back in 1963. He reacquired the car in 2011 and after two years of restoration it is now the 50 year anniversary of when he first
purchased the car. This amazing piece of automotive history now has a fitting parking space at the Good Ol'
Days Garage.
Gary goes on to reminisce about his own good ol' days when he'd walk into the garage as a boy and take a
bottle of Coca Cola from the old pop machine, and some 'scotties' chips from the counter. Two of his uncles
owned the garage at that time. The pair originally owned a Red Indian Service Station down the street but
after Texaco bought out Red Indian they decided to give up the station and they built the White Rose in 1946
which then opened in 1947. "I still have all of the original books for the station going right back to when it
opened," says Gary. "It was a very profitable station."
