Your Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA) Board of Directors share a common vision: "Through the co-operative efforts of all involved, the construction environment in Alberta will be the safest anywhere." This year we have an opportunity to work on our Strategic Plan. The ACSA has taken great steps in improving safety, but our journey is not over. What we are doing we need to continue to do well, but we also need to identify areas that we are not addressing. With the changing environment, new workers entering the industry, cultural diversity, and the impact of oil prices, there are many needs and opportunities. The Strategic Plan will provide direction for the ACSA going forward. 2014 was a year of transformational change for the ACSA. With changes there are new challenges. I would like to thank the staff of the ACSA for their commitment, dedication and for helping us to work through these challenges. As we work through the changes, we need to ensure we address industry's needs and not lose focus on providing advice as well as training. We need to continue to strengthen our partnerships with our sister associations and ensure we are addressing industry relationships. We have opportunities to meet with employers at their work sites. By knocking on their doors, we open our door to them. The ACSA Board of Directors is comprised of various construction associations representing employers, labour providers and worker representatives. Together we are the voice of the construction industry in Alberta. As such, the industry provides direction to the Board. With the direction provided by our founding members, industry can take responsibility for their future and improve safety in the construction industry. In 1988, it was employers who formed the ACSA. That showed courage amongst employers, who admitted they needed to change the way they were doing things. Today, this courage remains the same as employers acknowledge we need to change in order to improve. I am pleased to serve along with this outstanding group of individuals who take the time to share the view of the construction industry to advance workplace safety. It has been a privilege to have served as the ACSA Board Chair. At our 2015 Annual Meeting, the incoming Chair, Bernal Ulsifer will take the gavel. I know with his leadership the ACSA is well-positioned to explore new opportunities and adapt to changing safety needs. Lastly, I would like to thank all ACSA members for their support and commitment to workplace safety. Your involvement strengthens our industry and positions the ACSA as the leading provider of advice and safety training to Alberta's construction sector. There is strength in numbers and working together we can realize a construction environment in Alberta that is the safest anywhere. Dave Hagen, Chair | ACSA Board of Directors "A changing environment, new workers entering the industry, cultural diversity, and the impact of oil prices, there are many needs and opportunities."
