NEW VICE-CHAIR JOINS APG EXECUTIVE TWO NEW DIRECTORS EAGER TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE INDUSTRY AND HELP FARMERS The APG board welcomed the addi on of two new directors to replace outgoing directors from two zones. At the January 31 Annual General Mee ng during FarmTech, the board thanked outgoing Directors Ryan Kubinec of Westlock and Fraser Robertson of Fairview for their service, and welcomed new Directors Dan Visser of Fort Saskatchewan in Zone 3 and Jerome Isaac of Debolt in Zone 4. "The pulse growers organiza on was first interes ng to me because I like growing pulses on our farm," Visser explained. "With the soil health, agronomic, and nutri onal benefits that they provide, I see a bright future for both producers and consumers of pulses. I'm excited for the opportunity to learn, but also to play a small part in how the pulse industry in Alberta is directed." Visser was born and raised on a mixed hog and grain farm in Neerlandia. He graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with a crop science major in 2010. He married his wife Erin in 2012, and joined her family farm near Fort Saskatchewan. The couple have two sons, Adam, 3, and Henry, 1. They also operate a pedigreed seed farm along with Erin's parents, and grow wheat, peas, canola, faba beans, barley and are dabbling with soybeans. Meanwhile, Isaac lives near Debolt with his wife Elizabeth and one-year- old son Terrell. Together with his parents, Orlan and Judy, and brother Cam and his family, they run a grain and chicken farm. Yellow peas have been a key crop in Isaac's rota on with logis cal ming advantages as well as agronomic benefits for crops grown in subsequent years. "My interest in APG started with a year spent as an advisor learning all about what the organiza on does to benefit the farmers it represents," Isaac said. "I want to see check-off dollars spent wisely and leveraged for best advantage, and I also want to be a voice for growers in my zone." The 2018 Alberta Pulse Growers' annual general mee ng was broadcast live via albertapulse.com for the first me this year, and the mee ng video con nues to be available on the APG homepage and in the news sec on. At an organiza onal mee ng of the board immediately following the AGM, D'Arcy Hilgartner of Camrose was elected by the Directors as Chair for a second year, Don Shepert of St. Paul was named Vice-Chair and Allison Ammeter of Sylvan Lake remained as Past Chair. 6
