To reflect changes in the industry, we will review the courses, electives and competencies, formalize equivalencies and consider a final exam. Market research has also been conducted and stakeholder input garnered through numerous vehicles, including formal and informal surveys, and focus groups with Regional Safety Committee members and others. A complete listing of NCSO's has been created as the foundation for developing a searchable database of certified safety officers in Alberta. COR and SECOR Certification The ACSA Certificate of Recognition (COR) Audit has been successful in setting a standard for companies in the construction industry to develop and maintain a Health and Safety Management System (HSMS). The audit sets minimum standards that are recognized by the province. Seven out of every ten workers with an ACSA WCB industry code are covered by a COR. As well, 45% of all active CORs in Alberta are achieved through the ACSA. Much work is happening to revitalize the COR and SECOR certification programs. With increased staffing we will reduce wait times and provide consistent communications with our members. Our work is threefold: revise the audit protocol by including more descriptions on validation techniques and scoring; provide better resources to stakeholders, making it easier to achieve and maintain COR; and raise the qualification standards for external auditors and performing rigorous quality assurance reviews on all audits. 2014 was a year of internal change, with a keen eye to ensuring integral people, processes and supports are part of our foundation. Member surveys have been undertaken to obtain input, identify gaps and inform changes moving forward. COR 101 and SECOR 101 information sessions will be developed to better inform our membership on the components of the program and maintenance requirements. The registration process is also being revamped to streamline processes and improve customer service. To enhance the member experience, a process map was completed to simplify processes and reduce wait times for members to complete COR certification. A backlog in the audit review process is being addressed with automation of current business practices. An e-Audit review process will be implemented to provide members with the necessary documentation in a timelier manner. Staff training will also take place during 2015 to ensure our staff are knowledgeable and proficient in all areas of the COR audit, in order to better serve our customers. A pilot project with the Canadian Home Builders Association (CHBA) will offer SECOR workshops and program development to their members. 2014 STATUS REPORT & 2015 BUSINESS PLAN
