INSPIRATION CAN BE FOUND JUST ABOUT EVERYWHERE B R A D F E R S O V I T C H When I told Darren what I wanted to write for my editorial, he thought it was on shakey ground. When I told him if we did, he'd have to photo edit a picture of me with a ara. He said, "Let's run with it!" A subscriber of our magazine knew what big music fans Darren and I are, and when one of our favourite bands of all me was coming to town, he set us up with some amazing floor seats on the condi on we dropped off some back issues. So a er an amazing show, we met Mr. G to thank him for the ckets and give him his back issues. It wasn't long un l our conversa on slipped off into the world of building cars and where inspira on comes from. Turns out, he wanted a zig zag detail on the side of his upcoming '33 build, but couldn't come up with a form and shape he liked. Then one day, he had a chance to see a part of the Fabregé collec on, including Josephene's ara. There it was. Hidden in the profile of this gem were the lines he was seeking! Inspira on for hot rods can be all around us. Not that there is anything wrong with skulls, flames or military mo fs, but it really blows my mind to see things like ara forms being worked into a ride. Don't feel you need to go to the boneyard to find a vintage hood ornament because let's face it, they are ge ng tough to find. Go to your grandparents old junk shed and see if there is a piece off the old sewing machine or cream separator that you can rob from. When you look to s tch up your door panels, don't be afraid to find shape inspira on by using an old beach cruiser bike frame for your curves. The lines are all around us, when we look for them. While wri ng this ar cle, I see a solid brass curve in my fireplace door that make a sweet detail on a dash, or cut it in half for some headlight stand offs. My daughters' nail polish remover bo le has a profile that would actually be a cool shape to mount an instrument cluster in a centre console. If you want to see a ara in ac on, have a snoop around the Internet for a '33 Ford coupe named "Whiskey Runner". Once you see the ara, you can't unsee it. That's irrelevant. The important thing is how well that line works on the car, and you will see that inspira on from almost anywhere can fit in. Look around the world and see where your next inspira on comes from. Keep the shiny side up, Brad 7
